TONG YANRUNAN - FACE TO FACE IN PARIS

From September 12 to October 5, 2024, Clavé Fine Art hosts an exhibition by Chinese painter-portraitist Tong Yanrunan. This spring, Clavé Fine Art welcomed Tong Yanrunan for an artistic residency, a first for the gallery. In César’s former studio, renovated by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, Tong Yanrunan painted the faces of contemporaries connected with the art world: collectors, curators, critics, gallery owners and descendants of great 20th-century artists.

Clavé Fine Art welcomes Tong Yanrunan for his first exhibition in a French gallery, with a theme never before tackled at 10bis rue Roger: the portrait. By presenting the faces of Tong Yanrunan, the exhibition questions the modern portrait. Representing the other, guessing the unknown… the portrait defies figuration, taking shape as a fleeting image, questioning the very essence of its definition until it becomes a landscape of the soul.
